7km Charity Run

The last time I did a half marathon was like.. err.. 3 years ago? :s So it kinda freaked me out when Shawn-my NFC (Nomads Floorball Club) coach asked me to sign up for it.
But oh well, it turned out just fine. =) See??
This was taken after all of us had finished.

I ran/walk with Jenn 'cause I promised to stick with her no matter what. And we finished in 45 minutes which I think is something to be proud of. Especially for Jenn. It's her 1st run! =)

=))))

After the run, I realized that 7km ain't "significant enough" compared to the distance I run on court during floorball. Shawn was right after all. =) And I didn't needed to stop for water.
In fact, Jenn said this after 1/2 cup of 100plus at one of the stops:
"Shouldn't have drank so much 100plus, it made my tummy sick." =)

So here are some things that I've learn from this run:
1. Concentration
In a marathon, all you have to do is concentrate on finishing the race FAST. Do not think of the pain in your muscles nor the pain under your feet. Tell yourself once you finish, the pain will be gone.

2. Breathe properly
There's a difference between belly breathing and chest breathing. I used to feel pain and stress in my lungs after strenuous exercises but it rarely happens now. Because I've learn to breathe properly.
Check THIS out, it might help if you do have the same problem as I used to. =)

3. Body position
Never look at your feet when you run (though Lavinia aka Lala says that doing that makes you feel as if you're running faster. Haha). 'Cause looking down makes it hard to breathe and furthermore, the bible says this:

I lift up my eyes to the hills- Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip -
He who watches over you will not slumber;
Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you
The LORD is your shade at your right hand;
The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm -
He will watch over your life;
The LORD will watch over your coming and going
Both now and forevermore.

-Psalm 121-

So why look down when you're tired, out of breath, feeling as your legs are gonna break very soon? Lift up your head when you run. BUT of course you have to watch where you're going and what's on the floor every now and then la. Later you trip over a big stone and lose your two front teeth susah le...Hahahahaha. =)

4. Don't push yourself too hard
If you're feeling really really really tired and as if you're about to faint, just slow down. Do not stop immediately. Gradually slow down your pace but keep moving.

Everybody has a limit. It is important that you know yours.
